Local activist Marc Salomon has published an interesting rant against current San Francisco residential development policy, taking to task both the "stimulus" package being pushed by Mayor Gavin Newsom and Supervisor Bevan Dufty as well as Calvin Welch and the "non-profit housing mafia." The most salient point is that developers have largely been able to avoid paying for the city infrastucture new residents would require, and in a deflationary housing market, what developer is going to go forward with new starts? An interesting read once you get past the photo of a torch-wielding Salomon that doesn't immediately suggest "reasoned discourse." [Fog City Journal]
