Street of Dreams

The North Beach pedestrian plaza that's been the dream of Angela Alioto and Lawrence Ferlinghetti for years might be getting a little help from the new Pavement to Parks project. The city has been quickly moving to start taking real estate away from cars in order to make neighborhood shopping and snacking districts more appealing, with the 17th and Castro project getting a little more permanent of late. The plans for Vallejo Street in North Beach might even include a fountain and sculpture of the city's namesake, St. Francis of Assisi, and make a nice compliment to the Porziuncola chapel replica that Alioto worked so hard on.
