Announcement of the closure of venerable Berkeley institution Mr. Mopps, a toy store on Martin Luther King, Jr. Way, brought out Berkeleyites nostalgic for childhoods past with visions of buying the business. After receiving calls looking to make offers, owner Eugene Yamashita has hired realtor Jeff Auen to handle a sale of both the building and business, as well as a building further down that houses an antiques shop. It's not that business is doing badly with $650,00 a year in sales, but as Auen explained, "He’s caught between the store and his wife. He wants to liquidate everything." [Berkeleyside]
