20-Unit Project for Developmentally Disabled Hitting the Richmond

New, 8 comments

Today, the Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center and St. Peter's Episcopal Church (along with some other major funding and housing players) are holding a ceremonial groundbreaking on a 20-unit project for developmentally disabled adults in the Richmond. Dubbed the 29th Avenue Apartments, the building was slated as of 2007 to break ground in spring or summer 2009, so the project's clearly a bit behind schedule. It's part of the rebuilding of St. Peter's at 420 29th, which was damaged during Loma Prieta, but it's all smiles now. Says a church guy of the team that's putting it all together: "This partnership has worked miracles." The 1- and 2-bedroom units will house people who can choose to live alone or have live-in aides.
