A report by an aviation firm projects that California's high-speed rail line could siphon off 6 million passengers a year from the Bay Area's three airports. San Jose would be the worst hit, losing 12 percent of projected passengers by 2035, with a 9 percent loss at Oakland and 4 percent at SFO. Says a travel analyst who wasn't involved with the study: "There will be a giant sucking sound as you hear, especially business travelers, vacate airplanes in favor of high-speed rail." [Merc]
