Tighter Leash on Garages

New, 6 comments

Restrictions on building parking garages in the North Beach/Chinatown/Telegraph Hill areas passed yesterday by a vote of 7 to 2. The new rule would require conditional use permits for construction of a garage in an existing residence — policy heads have been noticing a string of properties that were kicking out renters and marketing up with the help of added parking. Now that's a lot harder to do, considering the fact that decisions on garage permits can be appealed to the Board of Supervisors. Considering they voted largely in favor of the rule, the supes must be looking forward to hearing such cases. Everyone likes a good garage hearing! [SF Examiner, previously]
