Board of Supes prez David Chiu gets quoted in a story about the rise of the electric bike, a global-ish phenomenon that has a fair amount of steam in China. There, though, electric bikes are a little more like Vespas. Anyway, the $11 billion industry "takes the hills out of riding," says one rider. Then there's Chiu, whom we imagine says this with a helmet strapped to his head: "Electric-assisted bicycles will change how people think about bikes in urban areas." [NYT]
