Academy of Art University: Planning Commission is So Over You

New, 5 comments

San Francisco's model landlord/art juggernaut, better known as The Academy of Art University, is scheduled for another wrist-slap from the Planning Commission today. On the agenda is a progress report from the commission's own Academy of Art University Enforcement program, along with the un-permitted conversion of a parking garage to classrooms at Taylor and Chestnut Streets. Which staff is recommending for "disapproval." This kind of activity has been going on for years, with the AAU contrite but complaining about San Francisco's legendary red tape and proceeding with illegal, un-permitted uses anyway. Which is why they need their own enforcement task force. To their credit, they have apparently cleared up about 90% of the more than one hundred life/safety-threatening violations they racked up this year. Today's hearing is still going- watch it here online- Sue Hestor's on right now complaining about the AAU's rapacious appetite for housing plus their private transportation network. Riveting.
