Rainbow Flag Hysteria

New, 1 comment

The rainbow flags in the Castro need to replaced. They're old and tattered, but they're attached to lampposts that have historic status. Although the Historic Preservation Commission approved attaching new and long-term banners to the poles, the Mission Dolores Neighborhood Association is throwing a fit about it. They claim it'll "obscure the "gateway" of their own neighborhood." They could demand an Environmental Impact Report. We think Matt Baume at NBC Bay Area summed it up best, "Welcome to San Francisco, where you can't hang a rainbow flag outside a gay bar without conducting an environmental impact report."
