It's a story we've heard before: contractor buys run-down '60s house in March 2007 for $1,250,000 in the Lake district; the Planning Department rejects their design for a replacement and neighbors file for a discretionary review. Who knows how long all that took, but at some point the owner brings in Elevation Architects, which comes up with a new design that everyone loves. And now, three-and-a-half years later, ready for her closeup as a respectfully stepped-back and sleek 4-bedroom, 4.5-bath mash-up of Bay Area Brown Shingle and Mid-Century Modern, asking $2,888,000.
Retaining the framing from the original two floors, and adding a third, the architects put a media room on the ground floor (with a full bath and bar) opening to the rear garden. Living spaces on the second floor, four bedrooms and three baths on the top. All mod-cons: sound system, the expected stylish kitchen, and nice to see that Benedini Agape tub in the master bath. Good stuff, handsome house. Will someone shell out almost three million to own it? Click on the gallery above for before and lots of after.
