When most people hear "Emeryville" they instantly think "Ikea," and not much else. And one residential group, Residents United for a Livable Emeryville, would like to keep it that way. First they fought the Ikea expansion plan earlier this year, but then backed off when the developer of the project promised to build parks and affordable housing. Now the group is rallying against a proposal to build a Macy's and a hotel near Bay Street. And in true NIMBY fashion, they have a long list of demands. Like providing workers with a livable wage. The audacity! [The Bay Citizen]
