While breezing through the thick of the Tenderloin, you probably wouldn't expect to note the slight smell of organic basil, would you? In an effort to wean residents of 333 Taylor off liquor and onto organic greens, Glide Memorial Church hooked up with the San Francisco Zen Center to build a farm on the roof of the church's five-story housing complex. "The residents maintain the 15 or so wooden-box planters, a compost bin the size of a picnic table, several fruit trees and a tiny greenhouse filled with the next batch of seedlings. The produce will stock residents’ kitchens." [SF Examiner]
