The Three Heads Six Arms buddha sculpture at Civic Center could go back to China as early as March 2011, the Arts Commission said. China wants Zhang Huan's art work back. The sculpture was brought in to commemorate SF's 30th Anniversary with its sister city Shanghai. Now China has informed custom officials that they won't issue another carnet for the extension of the sculpture. "We attempted though our various connections to try to address this issue and it seems like it's a very big hurdle to overcome," said Jill Manton, program director for the Arts Commission.
