An Australian developer's $16,000,000 new hostel project is being met with criticism from, not shockingly, other hostel operators, and somewhat tangentially, homeless advocates. We're particularly looking forward to the restoration of the original 1904 street-front facade, which currently houses a "Food Court Xpress." Putting a hostel 35 feet from BART seems like a good idea to us, but we guess it will mean longer lines for us to dance off all those martinis at Mr. Smiths once the hostellers finally leave the in-house nightclub.
