Berkeley Projects Privatizing

New, 2 comments

Meanwhile, in Berkeley, residents of public housing are in panic mode after the Berkeley Housing Authority notified everyone that all 75 public housing units would be sold to private developers and renovated. The developer(s), whoever it may end up being, will be required to keep the units "affordable," but the promise is a bit vague, and residents are afraid they won't ever be able to return to their homes post-renovation. To make up for the move, everyone's going to get Section 8 housing vouchers to live elsewhere. Cold comfort? [Daily Cal]
