$15M for Van Ness Signaling

Score $15 million of federal money for Van Ness traffic-signal technology — the money and tech go toward the eventual installation of bus-rapid transit, though because the street has to be ripped up to install fiber optics, construction won't start until 2012. Until then, some of the money will go toward cameras and such on neighboring Franklin and Gough. Van Ness BRT should be up and running by 2014, after what will no doubt be an annoying period of street surgery. [SF Examiner]
