Maybe it was unclear whether the "perfectly good, if odd, building" currently housing Nob Hill's Cala Foods would get torn down. After all, it's hardly an unpopular choice to keep an existing building and bolt on a new structure for a little more square footage: see the hypothetical-but-not-proposed SoMa warehouse proposal and the Presidio's Disney museum, to name a couple recent examples. But as the early-stage drawings above show, developer Prado Group's planning no such thing. Their hundred or so condos, sitting atop ground-floor retail, go right up to the sidewalk, and there's no trace of the old Cala Foods building anywhere. Take note, grocery watchers: this one's going to be a doozy.
