Fancy Pods Would Whiz Brainiacs to Google and NASA

New, 20 comments

A British transit company's trying to pitch Mountain View on a serious (at least to them) vision of personal rapid transit that would connect Google, NASA, and the downtown train station. The small pods, which travel on various routes along "guideways," bring to mind two things: 1) the whizzing pods on the villain's island in "The Incredibles," and 2) the dangling "air tram" one transit fantasizer once proposed for San Francisco. Bear in mind that PRT's not just for Burning Man-type dreamers: a system's already being tested at London's Heathrow Airport, and assuming it really happens, Masdar in the United Arab Emirates will be all PRT, no cars.
