Rent Control's 30 This Year

New, 6 comments

Love it or hate it, an op-ed piece in the SFBG commemorates the 30th anniversary of rent control. As some have called for the undoing of rent control laws (and there are cities that have actually gone through with it), the piece reminds us that our current laws, amended as they may be in their current form, come to us from San Francisco landlords. Landlords who were afraid a voter-enacted version would have been too tight on their necks. At the moment, our rent "stabilization" rules are as strong as ever, with a supervisor proposing more measures to protect families with children from eviction. [SFBG]
