Talking libraries, design critic John King wrote on Saturday about the library system's newest branch in Ingleside. But more importantly, for the sake of our story here you see, he touches on the battle to preserve the existing North Beach branch— a battle that has turned into a movement to preserve a whole "district" of disparate libraries designed by the defunct firm Appleton & Wolfard. Argument for: it "illustrates a particular aspect in the firm's career." Argument against: so do all the other ones. Argument for: it probably has better feng shui than the new North Beach library.
