Cottage No More: 5-Story Building On Its Way in Russian Hill

New, 17 comments

A new building's on its way to the former site of a 148-year-old cottage in Russian Hill that got the bulldozer earlier this spring. As you'll recall from those tumultuous days, preservationists called foul, while cynics awaited the construction of some shiny new condos. The cynics are usually right, aren't they? The old-cottage smell has barely drifted away, and the new building's already on its way now, says City Insider. Four market rate residences are planned for 1268 Lombard, housed in a five-story building. This is only the very beginning stages of the construction process, so whether or not everything happens smoothly for the developers, Michael Cassidy and James Nunemacher, remains to be seen.
