The U.S. Department of Housing and the Urban Development just granted San Francisco $8.75 million buckaroos in stimulus funds to help pay the rent of folks who are about to get evicted. Some of the funds will also go towards getting homeless off the streets and into jobs. The program is "designed to provide short- and medium-term financial assistance such as security and utility deposits, utility payments, moving assistance and hotel costs." If a person applies to the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-housing program they can get up to three months of "rental assistance" or 18 months of "partial rent assistance." [SF Examiner]
