Phoenix just opened its new light rail line back in December, and ridership's been nearly twice what they were expecting. Looks like they really did it right: Streetsblog's video shows nicer shelters than anything we have, ground-floor boarding, a working smartcard system (in contrast to Muni's ongoing floundering with Translink), easy payment (in contrast to Muni's tourist-flummoxing signs and machines), and bike racks on the trains! Yes! BIKE RACKS INSIDE TRAINS. We now wish our daily commute to work could detour through Arizona. [Streetblog]
