Jerry Brown has just officially set the ball in motion to put a stop on all the "foreclosure consultants" who are actually scam artists that "prey on vulnerable families facing foreclosure." If you want the legit title (not the scam artist one), you have to register your business with his office by submitting detailed information about the who, what, when and where of your operations, and also post $100,000. The folks who don't register but continue to practice will be in violation of state law, subject to criminal penalties of up to a year in jail, and face thousands of dollars in fines per violation.
