A "recovering architect," writing about the (still relatively) new Federal Building in SoMa, says its "sustainability" is self-indulgent and actually not that sustainable— "sustainable" also means buildings that are loved and thus give reason for their communities to preserve them: "Civic buildings like the San Francisco Federal Building ... are supposed to represent the common good, not personal statements of misanthropy." Can we get more charges of "misanthropic architecture" around here? [V&V]
