Fillmore of Yore

New, 1 comment

This is vintage Fillmore, pre-1960s urban renewal, pre-Yoshi's, pre-all of that. A review in the New York Times says the 50s-era photos in "Children of the Fillmore, 1952" all "refreshingly lack affectation," if they're a little "cutesy." But the review's last words might be even colder to the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency, which sees the Fillmore as becoming a jazz haven once again: "Nostalgia for a bygone era ultimately isn’t very helpful to a neighborhood like the Fillmore, which, like most communities, can never hope to recapture its past in any concrete sense."
