The Yupster Hood

New, 1 comment

One great thing in the WSJ's story about newly hip Temescal in Oakland: that the neighborhood owes its success not to yuppies, not to hipsters, but to "yupsters." A business-improvement district and a determined landlord have managed to raise sales-tax receipts 18 percent over four years. In that time, the area has become "Oakland's answer to San Francisco's Mission District and the city of Berkeley, drawing a mix of yuppies and plaid-wearing hipsters." And, presumably, their yupster babies. [WSJ]
