More architects say that the North Beach library, along with its other historically nominated library brethen, "has no architectural merit," and that designers Appleton & Wolfard "are not key names in the history of midcentury" here. Yet the point being made in creating a "discontinuous historic district" with libraries all over the map is that no single branch building is historic, interesting, or significant by itself — but becomes hallowed when considered alongside similar works elsewhere.
