Billboards v. Blight

Perhaps the fact that today is Nov. 3 is worth a reminder that the city will vote (is voting!) on Prop D, the measure that would allow buildings between 5th and 7th on Market Street to light up with billboards and other such signage. An NYT story on the subject says main proponent David Addington got the idea when he was looking at old pictures of the area, which used to boast tons of theaters (and all their dazzling lights). SF Beautiful still hates: "You're going to have a blighted area with a new, brightly lit blight." Brightly lit blight, or blight of the darker, Dickensian variety? Pull the lever today at your local polling station! [NYT, previously]
