Parking in a Tight Space

New, 6 comments

San Francisco's parking meter "battle royale" has gone national in an AP story about the plan to extend meter hours in our popular "night owl" neighborhoods. Like the plan to regulate and tax marijuana throughout the state, the parking meter plan also gets a little credit for conveniently raising a fair amount of cash during tight times. But forget about the money: heads have rolled elsewhere for hiked parking meter rates and increased hours. Oakland and Chicago, for instance. Still, transpo advocates say we can't have world-class transit if cars keep getting a free pass during night hours. So is Muni walking a tightrope here or what? [AP, previously]
