The Algae's Supposed to Be There

CityLAB's WPA 2.0 has concluded. The public works design competition in which we saw Bay Area entrants propose condos on the Bay Bridge, a thousand miniparks in San Francisco, and a see-saw border fence with Mexico, has declared a winner, and it wasn't any of the above proposals. Taking home the gold is PORT Architecture + Urbanism, who proposed large swaths of "algae pontoons" that would be used to absorb carbon emissions from urban areas and as wetlands/recreational areas.
