A newly rehabilitated stairway greets visitors and passersby at Taylor and Broadway. This is one of those crazy-slanty hills that make people feel like they're about to fall off the edge of the world, and the old cracked concrete steps used to present a terrible menace to stilettos. But the city has stepped in and filled in the crumbly bits with new paving, sort of like how, in desperation, we once fixed a hole in a cake by stuffing it with bread and then slopping icing on top. Actually, it's hopefully not like that at all. In any case, it is a lovely hill and it should be climbed, though perhaps not in stilettos. [SF DPW]
