The tension over the New Year's killing of 22-year-old Oscar Grant in Oakland came to a head last night when a protest against the police took a violent turn: cars burned, windows smashed. No word on exactly how many protesters were involved, though they succeeded in shutting down the Lake Merritt, Fruitvale and Downtown/12th Street BART stations in Oakland for several hours Wednesday evening before police arrested more than 100. We'd be surprised if this is the last we hear from the outraged before the investigation is through. Any readers lucky enough to witness the destruction?
