A Fatter Fairmont

New, 2 comments

Although a Chron story on the conversion of the Fairmont Tower's hotel rooms into condos said the hotel planned to "convert" the rooms (and "deconstruct" the tower), a Planning Department document on the proposal has clearer language: "demolish." The current structure, at 317 feet and 23 stories, will be replaced by a new one also standing 317 feet, but 26 stories. Sounds like the tall ceilings referred to by One Wag will be getting the axe. One more thing: at a total of over 600,000 square feet in combination with the five-story podium the tower sits on (compared to 300,000-plus currently), the condo-fied Fairmont Tower will be looking a lot less svelte, we dare say.
