New Name Alert

Eric Mar's first piece of legislation as newly anointed supervisor: renaming the Richmond to— wait for it— the Richmond. What, you say? The Richmond's official name is actually the Park-Presidio district, so dubbed in 1917 by the Board of Supes because easily ruffled residents were concerned about being confused with the city of the same name. According to a historian, the name comes from an Aussie who named his home the Richmond House for the Melbourne suburb he came from. Yay for trivia. [SF Gate]
