You don't see Civic Center Plaza packed to the gills like this very often— way back before anyone ever knew who would take the presidency, event organizer NextArts rolled the dice and booked the square for Inauguration Day, opening the door for the city to prove that Yes! We! Can! have civic togetherness. It just needs a little bit of planning. If Chron architecture critic John King was a little deflated at the lack of a proper place to gather in San Francisco on the night of Obama's victory, he might feel a little prouder today. Before the Civic Center goes back to business as usual, anyway. Happy inaug, guys, and get back to work, will ya?
