A Little Safer From the Taliban

"I call it God's little acre — a special box of hope," says Judy Shannon of her victory garden in an LA Times profile of San Francisco's urban locavore experiment. Among the things she's learned from her box of hope: snipping thyme for her supper salad wouldn't actually kill it. Shannon's among a lucky few— although the city's most prominent victory garden was dismantled a couple months ago, 18 pilot gardens live on in the yards of volunteers who responded to a Craigslist ad. Plant on, planters. [LA Times]
