The feds have finally given in and taken over Fannie and Freddie. The two mortgage giants, which together own or guarantee half of the country's $12 trillion in mortgages, have been drowning in their own sorrow for a while now— the intervention's meant to keep them from taking the rest of the us with them to hell. Which is probably a good thing. The bad: $2 billion a year in dividends will be axed. [USA Today]
