Gavin on GG Bridge Barrier: FAIL

New, 1 comment

Following a reversal of public opinion in favor of a Golden Gate Bridge suicide barrier— in a highly scientific online poll, surely— Mayor Gavin has weighed in with his two cents on the proposed barrier. His office, along with the planning department, is recommending a "non-physical solution" to preventing suicides— better mental intervention programs, what have you. Or a net, if we absolutely must put something up. Supervisor Tom Ammiano sounds pretty pissed: "I've been working on this for 11 years. Is that adequate consideration for a project that addresses the loss of two dozen lives every year?" Meanwhile, the city's mental health advisory committee says it's in favor of a barrier. Mixed messages? Crossed wires? Or perhaps just another Wednesday in San Francisco city politics...
