Greener Than Thou: Down With Emissions! Up With Superiority!

New, 3 comments

Greener Than Thou is our report on San Francisco’s obsession with all things green, calling bullshit in the poseurs and lavishing praise on those who have secured their place in environmental paradise. Let it mellow longer than most? Holler!

Another day, another greenwashing (of Gav's rep, that is). Since 2000, the city has reduced carbon emissions by eight percent, and is well on track to reduce overall emissions to 20 percent below 1990 levels in just four more years. Maybe you've heard of the Kyoto Protocol? Shunned by President Bush, but signed by many other nations, the directive requires member countries to reduce carbon emissions to an average of seven percent below 1990 levels. San Francisco is, of course, way ahead of that curve— obviously. 'Cause we're perfect like that.
