Deep, deep sighs all around: At yesterday's meeting, the BART board approved a one year pilot plan that will allow both disabled and non-disabled users of Segway scooters and other “Electric Personal Assistive Mobility Devices (EPAMD)” to haul their hulking masses of plastic onto BART. Luckily, Segway riders and other non-disabled transpotards will only be allowed to schlep during non-peak hours, same as bike riders. This act of legislative brilliance follows an incident in June, whereby a Segway rolled off a platform and hit a train; how the ability to bring a scooter on board a train might have prevented that situation isn't entirely clear.
