San Francisco's Exploratorium is moving forward with plans to relocate to Piers 15-17 by 2011 and have taken steps to ensure that construction will proceed. Piers 15-17 are in need massive repairs, a fact the Exploratorium was well aware of before choosing the crumbling site. Unfortunately for them, construction costs have jumped from $100 Million to $175 million. Solution: Strike a deal with the city. In exchange for 50 years of free rent, the museum of "science, art, and human perception" will gladly help restore the piers. The Port Commission will make the call on this one today.
