After being spirited away under cover of night eight years ago, benches may return to Civic Center with the support of Supervisor Sophie Maxwell. The seats were initially removed to keep homeless people from sleeping on them, but with the city's crackdown on crime in the area, Maxwell feels we may be — prepare yourselves — ready for benches again. According to the Tenderloin Station police captain, however, "few, if any, homeless people sleep in the plaza or adjacent areas these days." Uh, really? [Examiner]
