And the permits are in! Just a few days back, the Planning Department issued a demo permit for 700 Valencia Street, the now-future home to a 5-story, 9-unit luxury condo building at the corner of 18th Street. The nascent development has caused much consternation in the neighborhood, as anti-dev Missionites (and some Commissioners on the Board of Appeals) contend that the 50-foot structure is both out of scale with the nabe, and will muck up the urban landscape by blocking views of the mural on the eastern side of the Women's Building. Affordable units— or lack thereof, rather— are also an issue for neighborhood watchdogs. Deadline for permit protest (see graffiti above!): August 9th. Hustle!
