Recycling poachers— you know, those folks who plow down Market Street with overstuffed carts— might just get a smackdown from the state if they keep on stealing people's sticky Coke cans. The payoff for raiding those blue bins under cover of darkness doesn't seem like a lot, but in these dire times, more people are trying to earn that extra trash money. Residents complain the "recycling bandits" spill litter over their streets and sometimes even get violent with them if they protest. The sheriff's on his way: a new law in the works would (hopefully) curtail enterprising poachers by force recycling centers to check ID. [SF Gate]
