a new survey ranking the nation's top design towns lists San Francisco all the way down at number six. So what edged us out of the top five? We've got great new green building policies, an increasingly impressive collection of buildings designed by big-name architects, and a pretty high quality of life in a "creative environment." In fact, there are no real problems until we come to— think hard here— Muni! Our woefully inefficient and far-from-comprehensive public transportation network gave LA, Portland, and Boston the trump cards. Will the Central Subway make a difference? What about that city-wide air tram-cum-roller coaster? Surely that'll bump us up in the next round.
