A PG&E underground vault went kaboom yesterday at California and Drumm, turning a manhole cover projectile and sending it shattering to the ground. We happened to be— brace— offline during this breaking news and thus our afternoon teacups went unrattled (until we logged on again, that is). Witnesses reported feeling the explosion from as far away as the Ferry Building. Luckily everyone in the vicinity was fine, if a little shaken — PG&E's still trying to figure out what exactly happened. [Examiner]
