Greener Than Thou: Easy on the Renovations, Saints

Greener Than Thou is our report on San Francisco’s obsession with all things green, giving credit where credit is due and calling bullshit when the need arises. Feeling morally superior on the green front? Testify!

Sure, "greening" your building is the right— and more importantly, hip— thing to do. Such saintliness is no longer a matter of aesthetic decisions, however — it's becoming mandatory in these here parts (see Gavin's green plan for details). While one's intentions may be in the right place, there are some risks involved in greening a building. Hazards ahead: keep it cool while gutting your buildings, people— many new products and technologies may not be compatible with existing building systems; or if they're installed incorrectly, may do more harm than good. So let's all be careful out there.
