Sorry SF, 49ers Still Heart Santa Clara

New, 3 comments

Yesterday's glimmer of hope for the 49ers bid may have been just that— a glint. Despite having missed their self-imposed negotiation deadline, Santa Clara continues to move forward with a bid to become the new home of the 49ers. Surely this—along with the passing of Proposition G, supporting construction of a new stadium— is good news for San Francisco? Perhaps not, as word comes from the 49ers camp that the team is committed—committed!—to setting down roots in Santa Clara. "Santa Clara remains the front runner," said the team spokesman recently. But as elections are pushed back and costs pile up in Santa Clara— $600,000 for the required special election— the SF deal is looking better and better. 2012 is the magic number, so the race carries on.
