Randy Shaw lathers some love on San Francisco's endless parade of municipal ballot measures today — compared to New York's "back-room stadium deals," the hand wringing over Prop G (and Chris Daly's Prop F, natch) were a good thing. According to Shaw, a ban on local initiatives allowed New York politicians to greet plans for the Yankee Stadium with arms wide open (and to pay for it with public money), allowing the baseball team to seize 20 acres of public park from a neighborhood that sorely needed it. ... And this is all occurring in the onetime center for progressive politics, a status that has moved 3000 miles west to San Francisco." [Beyond Chron]
